What is S:T:O:P?

S:T:O:P stands for "Simple Tournament Organizer Petanque". It is tournament software for both players and tournament directors.

What does that mean?

Each player can see the same information as the tournament management. Players no longer have to crowd around small postings to find their names among hundreds of others, but can simply search a list on their smartphone.

How does that work?

Very simply. A WiFi network is created where everyone can connect to access the information.

What kind of information?

That depends on the tournament! In a melee, a player sees the names of teammates; in a tournament, who the opponent is and on which lane you play; in a Swiss-system tournament, the player can view the rankings to see their position. Also, all match results and many other details.

What if I don't have a smartphone?

Of course, all information can also be printed out.

We don't have internet at our playing field. Can I still use S:T:O:P?

Yes, the S:T:O:P system consists of a server with a WiFi router and the S:T:O:P software. No internet connection is needed, only power.

Can I start right away if I have S:T:O:P?

Sort of. If you're a player with a smartphone, yes. If you are running the tournament, it's better to use a tablet with a keyboard, because typing hundreds of names on an on-screen keyboard is uncomfortable. To print lists, you also need a printer.

Do I have to type in the names every time?

No, once a player has been entered, you'll get a list to select from when typing starts. Teams that the player has previously played in will also be offered. So if someone always plays with the same teammates, you just type a few characters, select player and team, and that's it for registration.

Which tournament modes can S:T:O:P handle?

Many: Melee, Supermelee, tournament series with ranking (Supermelee), AB, ACBD, ABCD, poule, Swiss system, Maastricht system, Form-X, round robin, x rounds drawn freely, league, country cup. Hopefully nothing forgotten.

What else can S:T:O:P do?

It supports various draw modes like tournament tree, drawing, top vs bottom, pulling lots. Participants can register themselves on-site or online. Sub-tournaments can be defined, tournaments can be exported/imported, and more.

Online, export, and import?

es, online. When you purchase S:T:O:P, you can get a subdomain under pétanque.org, e.g. bck.berlin.pétanque.org. There you can handle online registrations, import tournaments, and view rankings.

Who uses S:T:O:P?

The Berlin State Pétanque Association uses it to organize the Berlin State League. The 1st BC Kreuzberg and Pétanquistan organize their supermelees and tournaments with S:T:O:P.

Can I see it online?

Of course. Under berlin.pétanque.org you find Berlin clubs that have conducted tournaments with S:T:O:P. At 1. BCK you find most tournaments (search e.g. for Salatgarten).

Can I test S:T:O:P for my club?

Yes, contact us and we will set up a demo access under pétanque.org.

What does S:T:O:P cost?

800 Euros. You get a server/NUC plus an external WiFi router for good coverage. The tournament system runs on that.

We are just a small club, we can't afford that!
